What is sync licensing?

Sync licensing is the process of obtaining permission from music rights holders in order to use a piece of music within visual media such as TV, film, and advertising.

A sync licence is obtained from the owner of the publishing rights for lyrics and composition, and a master licence is obtained from the owner of the recording rights for use of the audio recording.
